Carotid arteries segmentation in CT images with use of a right generalized cylinder model
نویسندگان
چکیده
The arterial lumen is modeled by a continuous right generalized cylinder with piece-wise constant parameters. The method is based on the identification of the parameters of each piece from a series of contours extracted along an approximate axis of the artery. This curve is defined by a minimal path between the artery end-points. The contours are extracted using the Fast Marching algorithm. The identification of the axial parameters is based on a geometrical analogy with helical curves, while the identification of the surface parameters uses the Fourier series decomposition of the contours. Thus identified parameters are used as observations in a Kalman optimal estimation scheme that manages the spatial consistency from each piece to another. The method was evaluated on 46 datasets from the MICCAI 3D Segmentation in the Clinic Grand Challenge: Carotid Bifurcation Lumen Segmentation and Stenosis Grading (http://cls2009.bigr.nl). Algorithm for Blood-Vessel Segmentation in 3D Images Based on a Right Generalized Cylinder Model: Application to Carotid Arteries
The arterial lumen is modeled by a spatially continuous right generalized cylinder with piece-wise constant parameters. The method is the identifies the parameters of each cylinder piece from a series of planar contours extracted along an approximate axis of the artery. This curve is defined by a minimal path between the artery end-points. The contours are extracted by use of a 2D Fast Marching...
متن کاملAssessing the intima-media thickness and Young modulus changes of the common carotid artery in the neck region external radiotherapy based on the processing of ultrasonic images
Since it is too vital to the prevention of carotid disease in the vascular system, it seems necessary to the estimation of the elastic behavior of the carotid artery in head and neck external radiotherapy. In the present study, a total of 24 neck carcinoma patients treated with external radiotherapy had been studied. The carotid mean dose values were determined for each case by contouring the c...
متن کاملNumerical Investigation of Angulation Effects in Stenosed Renal Arteries
Background: Numerical study of angulation effects of renal arteries on blood flow has been of great interest for many researchers. Objective: This paper aims at numerically determining the angulation effects of stenosed renal arteries on blood flow velocity and renal mass flow.Method: An anatomically realistic model of abdominal aorta and renal arteries is reconstructed from CT-scan images and u...
متن کاملEvaluating the effect of stenosis increase and pulsatile blood pressure on effective stress distribution in viscoelastic finite element model based on carotid artery ultrasound images
The aim of this study is to evaluate the changes of effective stress distribution in plaque by progressing to the stenosis throat and to assess the pulsatile pulse pressure effect on effective stress of a viscoelastic finite-element model of carotid arteries having less and more than 50% stenosis. In-vivo geometries of the arteries were reconstructed using consecutive transverse ultrasound imag...
متن کاملBilateral symmetry of human carotid artery atherosclerosis.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Atherosclerosis is a principal cause of stroke and myocardial infarction. The carotid arteries provide a site at which progression of atherosclerosis can be monitored reproducibly and noninvasively. This study was conducted to determine the similarity of atherosclerotic plaques in the left and right carotid arteries. This question was explored with the use of perfusion-fi...
